Jessica Poem by Jillian Keenan

Jessica

When you were just a child
I would comb your hair and style it
with two french braids on either side
wow, the time is really flying
but I remember clearly
the day I left to join the Army
I couldn't bare to say goodbye
I could never let you see me cry
that was a misconception
I really should have let you in
and I wonder what could have been
but really that's irrelevant
after everything you've been through
I can't express how proud I am of you
and still you are so young
most women I know are not this strong
when you look at your reflection
I hope to God that you can see
everything that you are
and everything that you can be
