It Was Not I Poem by Charmaine Sinclair

It Was Not I

It was not I that said these words
creating hurts and fatal wounds,
It was not I that with words,
maimed and stabbed-
knew no moral bounds.

It was not I with lethal glare
looked coldly on
at your despair,
It was not I whose doorsteps stained
with betrayal blame and twisted hate

It was not I that fell first,
screaming for the now-said curse,
It was not I that crumpled, lost,
drowned in salt and bitter fears.
It was not I that held you close, icy, fiery,
already gone.
