It's Just An Act Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

It's Just An Act

Whatever it was to have been sprayed,
Into the atmosphere these tumultuous days.
Has emboldened the people to create,
An escalating of their mental issues.
Unleashed and left to go,
Both unexplained or self evaluated.
Giving them more of a reason,
To seek and pursue conflicts with others.
And daring to have ignored,
Their arguments to start.
Regardless how petty they pick them to begin.
As if enjoying to build their own traps.
Like mice or sheep,
Following the teasing of being fed...
On poisoned treats.
And...
Doing this to expedite,
An inviting of their own diminishing consciousness.
Unrecognizing the dimming.
Unrecognizing the facts.
Unrecognizing reality fading.
Or remembering it to have had.
Yet...
There are still some who are left,
Struggling against this kind of wilful acceptance.

"You seem unaffected and unbothered,
By all the confusion and manufactured chaos! "

-Sssss.
Keep it down.
You trying to blow my cover? -

"Cover? "

-Yes.
It's just an act.
I'm as crazy as everybody else.-

"Then why whisper about it? "

-Some of us,
Are still too down low.
Hoping to keep it undetected.-

"That's crazy! "

-I know.
But it was you who asked.
However...
Forget it was me,
Who volunteered to expose my identity.-

"Don't worry.
That act you can keep to yourself.
Besides...
I'm just cruising through the 'hood'."
