It Is Raining Poem by Milica Franchi De Luri

It Is Raining

Rating: 5.0

Hallelujah!
The havens have opened up.
The merciful god of rain
has taken pity on this land
scorched by smoldering heat,
dried up and cracked like plaster,
robing the fields of yield and luster.

It is raining!
It is a miracle for my two years old granddaughter
She has never seen before
from the sky falling water
She has never heard the thunder,
never seen lightening;
for her it is all so frightening.

It is raining!
The drought is broken!
Cristal clear precious water
is coming down in buckets
washing our dusty tin roofs,
filing up our tanks and dams,
quenching our thirsty cows and lambs.

The rains are here!
Everybody is out on the street
getting themselves soaking wet,
washing off the dust and sweat.
They are doing the rain dance
thanking god for removing the sword
that threatened a slaughter
that comes from not raining,
not having any water.

oh Milica, we had that drought here in Qld too, as you probably know for over two years and then it just started raining and it was just a wonder as your poem describes it... (Of course, dry season is here again and the grass is dry...)
