It Hurts Less Poem by Ng'ang'a Judah

It Hurts Less

It Hurts Less

NO,
Do not expect to get the perfect grades,
A’s in all units,
First among all students,
Do not expect to be the graduate student of the year,
And it will hurt less, if you are not.

No,
Do not expect to land on your dream career,
Paying the best,
The best car for you to buy,
Don’t even think to have a palace for a home,
For it will hurt less, if you don’t get there.

No,
Do not expect to get an angel for a wife,
Perfect in laundry, cookery and financially,
Caring and ever so gentle,
Do not expect her to be anti-chatterbox,
For it will hurt less, if she is no.

No,
Don’t expect to have brilliant children,
Bold and academic geniuses,
The best in sports,
Do not even expect them to be leaders one day,
For it will hurt less, if they do not get there,

And the cycle continues.

We can work and plan to achieve things but can not expect to always get what we want. So your poem teaches us not to set our expectations to high, lest we be disappointed. Thanks for sharing, Ng'ang'a Peace
