Interest Shown Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Interest Shown

When someone's 'me' and 'l' is missing,
From a comversation.
Not to hear this mentioned.
Or heard it to listen,
About what they have done.
But more of their conversation,
Is focused upon others.
With interest to express it.
Either they will become,
Suspected for expressing...
Too much interest in others than themselves.
Or being selfish for not sharing,
What others did not know to discover...
Them not to be selfish but respectful.

And this at times can upset,
Those who spread rumors and gossip.
From one ear to the next.
With respect unshown to neglect.
To later learned,
There are still some people who exist,
Disinterested in impressions to make.
Who want it with it wished...
To show more of their concern done to do,
Than talking about themselves,
As if to validate...
A displayed resume passed around.

"Oh, please go on.
Tell us more about your adventures."

And still not take the opportunity,
To know people for who they are.
Before discussing what they do.
Like proposing a marriage to engage it.
Then interrupting the ceremony,
To ask one's name!
