Inheritance Poem by Ima Ryma

Inheritance

The Revolutionary War
Was fought by freedom seekers who
Wanted to give their future more,
So won the war and began to
Let Founding Fathers draft a plan,
A Constitution to denote
The rights of free and brave to span
All time through democratic vote.
Bequeathed to generations be
The furtherance of such ideal.
Whether or not We all live free
Is tested constantly for real.

For the freedom We say We yearn,
We the People each day must earn.
