Inevitable Progress Poem by Daniel P Martin

Inevitable Progress

I welcome progress with a tear in my heart,
The world is evolving and I play my part,
Change is inevitable, and technology the key,
But all the while conscious what the price may be.

The urban jungle, the electronic nest,
Mechanical ants bow to man’s behest
The chaos is spreading, like a wildflower seed,
Reaping the profits and fuelling the greed.

But fear of the chaos is tempered with ease,
By the brilliant minds, who placate and appease,
Creation expands with the knowledge they seek,
To distract and amuse, and to rebuild the weak.

Hypocrisy reigns, among those who dissent,
Their aim and their sentiment may be well meant,
But when sickness takes hold or weakness invades,
The objections are hollow when technology saves.

Who can be pure, with hands drenched in blood?
Who then can flourish, while they stifle the bud?
Who can oppose, when all are entwined?
But who then will mourn for the world left behind?
