Indian Summer Poem by Paula Glynn

Indian Summer

Rating: 5.0

Pretty teenage girl in her yellow bikini
Copying the gorgeous actress Jessica Alba
Girl admiring women magazine female models
Strutting their stuff down the beach promenade
Their sophisticated heeled sandals capturing photo attraction.

Young man manically working at the beach bar
Serving delicious alcoholic beverages
Namely passion on the beach cocktails
Or famous gin and tonic refreshers
Or just plain light beers for beach goers.

People swimming in the deep foaming ocean
Riding with the aggressive seawaves
Some with floating rubber rings
Some swimming simply without floating aids
Enjoying the unpredictable but popular ocean.

Lifeguards continually watching out for struggling
People in the self-denied dangerous ocean
Yet finding no fear in the deep blue waves
The lifeguard understanding the workings of the sea
No ordinary person to struggle in it and be left be.

The arcades enjoyed by many young people
Playing modern games to entertain at night
Not usually winning anything: money gone
Yet played with false hope and excitement
The neon lights of the busy arcade nostalgic.

Popular ice cream addictively devoured
From vanilla, chocolate, mint and strawberry
Beach goers needing their cool down
The hot shining sun turning skin brown
The summertime a happy time for young and old alike.

Promenade cafes to serve food and drink
Tourists wanting to enjoy the sun and not think
To just sit there and enjoy their soft drink
Celebrating the indescribable Indian Summer
Cherishing their short and happy seaside holiday.

Excellent poem, but I had always been a very shy girl, so I never wore a bikini.I have enjoyed your poem full of joy. TFS

The lively beachside in summer is beautifully captured in words.
