In The Cupboard Poem by Paul Reed

In The Cupboard

In the cupboard
Under the stairs
Amongst the shoes
And the light bulb spares

I spied a banner
Stuck to the back wall
It announced very cheerily
'Merry Christmas To All'

This struck in me
A note of sombre doom
As I closed the cupboard door
And left that little room

For the Summer
Is not yet in it's stride
And I don't want December yet
And all those things of Yuletide

So, whilst I do love Christmas
You would join with me, I bet
To not want it just now
Christmas is coming - but please not just yet.
