In The Comfort Of The Shade Poem by Valsa George

In The Comfort Of The Shade

Rating: 5.0

She was sweating profuse
In the midday heat
The April sun stood blazing overhead
And heat waves came down in fiery might
With brusque pricks all over!
The umbrella blocked its direct rays
But nothing could fetter the piercing heat

She felt being baked in an oven
Rivulets of sweat trickled down
From the nape of her neck and her thighs
Clinging her clothes to her legs and feet
She walked dragging her feet awkwardly
Through the cobbled sidewalk of the steaming street
At a distance was seen a tall tree
Like a desert traveler, sighting an oasis
She walked briskly to its shade
Its straggling branches with tender leaves
Was like a big open umbrella!
With a sigh of relief she wondered
Under its wooden elbows
What comfort lay in wait!

Kind to everyone and everything
It didn’t deny its comfy shade to man or beast
Its branches, gnarled by long years
Gave shelter to the feathered folks

At its foot were a few cows
Away from the torrid heat, they lay
Chewing the cud and fanning flies with their tails
Those beasts disciplined in life’s stern school
Didn’t show any protest, but gently accommodated
The stray pedestrian without any fuss

Is not Nature a wonderful arbour
Where men and animals cohabit!

Life on this earth is not so pleasant, whether it's hot or cold we need a shelter and a shade. Beyond physical strains there are mental strains too, and again we need a shelter and shade. Lucky are those who get a shade of love but great are those who become shelter and shade for the ailing humanity. So let us pray, Oh! Almighty God, make us a shade and shelter for the sufferers and become a shade for us.

A Wonderful write Valsa. A meaningful question asked... Is not Nature a wonderful arbour Where men and animals cohabit! Yes, not only man but also animals search for shade especially in peak of summer where heat become unbearable. Very true said tree shades are like umbrella, which protect us from being baked in an oven. Loved reading it.

A one of a kind write with a great title. Its compelling imagery makes a reader feel and thankful of the trees that are always available to share their bounty. Their generosity is beyond compare and this wonderful write depicted brilliantly to the readers this wonderdul attribute. So beautifully crafted and well conveyed. Onto my Poem List.

Another poetic gem that focuses on the importance, wonders and beauty of nature more particularly trees. Of all living things, trees are the most giving creations. The totality of their being is offered to mankind and animals; leaves, branches, trunks , flowers and fruits. Even in their death, they still offer whatever is left.

A vivid scene of the heat of the summer, a woman struggling with the fierce sun and then nature presents it's gift of shade and to pause and drink in the scene of a few cows accepting of her presence in a very noble way! Beautiful write and great title!
