Imperfect As You Are Poem by Raven Keller

Imperfect As You Are

Rating: 4.5

I had once memories
Of being in your arms
Sweet nothings you had whispered
Too tame I had become

Placid was my heart
A unicorn under a maidens touch
Too far under your guidance had I strayed
Suppressed under your sirens charm

Cold turned your smile
On that gentle autumns day
With my silver horn in hand
Turned back to me and said:

'Dear lover, why so alarmed?
Did you think I loved you,
Imperfect as you are?

Did you truly believe,
My heart belonged to an invalid?
I took what I needed.
For even a rodent has a purpose,
If only food for the cat.
I sweetened your drowning
And carved out your heart.

Oh how far I was under your will
That I lingered, for I still believed
You loved me still
Defenseless and weeping I lay
Under the willow
On that gentle autumns day

Wow! The imagery is amazing, I can feel your pain at being used by another. Very strong expression, you are a strong person with an aching heart. My heart goes out to you. Thank you for sharing something so painful. Keep writing, I want to read more of your poetry. RoseAnn
