If You’re Real Poem by Megan Reily

If You’re Real

I think I understand now
I can’t control myself
I understand now
The urges I get

I think I understand her now
Why she would suddenly
Touch my arm
Or my hand

Because I have an odd urge
An urge to touch
Touch your arm or shoulder
Touch to see if you’re real

You are very real to me
In my eyes
And in my mind
Then why
Why
Do I need to check?

I’m not unsure of myself
I never am
But I can’t help this urge
To feel what is real

My mind is working fast
I understand too much
I see too much
I feel too much
I wish right now
I was in peace

But right now
It’s impossible
Right now,
I can’t control it
Right now,
I want to check and see
If you are real

Great writing. I love the expression of turmoil here, you're very good at putting your feelings into words that run together so well. Beautiful work.
