If I Were To Tell A Story Poem by Gregory Corban Jr.

If I Were To Tell A Story

If I were to tell a story, what would it be?
A story of romance and tragedy?
A classic with pigs yelling ‘wee wee'?
Or an adventure featuring troll bridges requiring a fee?

If I were to tell a story, who would be in it?
A great wizard who's age is above the third digit?
A cheap production with a dwarf who is really a midget?
Maybe a hyper-active boy who can only fidget?

If I were to tell a story, where would it take place?
A cave with gods who wish to steal your face?
A dungeon with ogres brandishing a mace?
How about a police station, about to take your first case?

If I were to tell a story, what time would I pick?
The black plague when everyone's sick?
That time when the most popular name was ‘Rick'?
Or when houses were lighted by some wax and a wick?

If I were to tell a story, who would be the villain?
A rich man with his favorite pet chicken?
A man looking for oil who just keeps drillin'?
Or a dude who locks you in a fridge to keep chillin'?

If I were to tell a story, where would I start?
A plot where the world is falling apart?
A race that takes place with a golf cart?
Or an explosion that blows up half of Wal-Mart?

If I were to tell a story, what would the hero do?
Sing a song that goes like ‘tootly tootly to'?
Meet a sensei so he can learn kung fu?
Or talk with a cow that only says ‘moo'?

If I were to tell a story, what would be the ending?
Would it need a sequel for the ending's still pending?
A happy musical when everyone starts to sing?
Or after defeating the evil, the hero becomes king?

If I were to tell the story, how would it go?
Would people tell me it's so-so?
Or it's the greatest story ever told?
Would other authors consider me a worthy foe?
I don't really care, for writing is the greatest joy I know.
