I Wish They Knew Poem by Hajar Lazim

I Wish They Knew

Rating: 5.0

I wish they knew
The world is not the same anymore
Humanity has lost its touch
Neither democracy nor bureaucracy
People are yearning for equity

I wish they knew
Life is like living in a black hole
The world is sickening
Terrified by the corrupted autocrats
Fearing human more than God

I wish they knew
Turbulent nations are suffering
For safety, hunger and love
Mortified by war, terrorists and dictators
24/7- Bang! Boom! Bang! BOOM!
The heavy festering smell of metallic blood drenched the streets
Petrified- day and night

I wish they knew
The hot soup tastes sweet and comforting
But it is fleeting
Parachute bombs pouring from the sky like heavy rain
A mother in tattered clothes saving her baby
The children on the run trying to flee
But cease-

I wish they knew
Looking up at the clear blue sky
Is no longer hopeful
I wish they knew
The people are singing
The song of unity
No aim for luxury
But more of tranquility
