I Will Be First Poem by Randy McClave

I Will Be First

I'm a nice guy
And I've always finished last,
And if anyone believes that is a lie
Well, just take a look at my past.
When anyone needed help I was there
I always helped all that I could,
I did without and for them I said a prayer
Just because I knew that I should.
If anyone ever needed a dollar
I'd give them the last one that I had,
And for that deed I wouldn't holler
Never would I get mad.
I would never mistreat the elderly
And never would I give harm to a pet,
I treat all honorably
And I say that with a smile and with no regret.
I treat all women like royalty
That is how I was raised,
I will give them all of my loyalty
To their beauty and wonder I'm always amazed.
Many times I have done without
So, that someone else would have something,
Never out of anger or disappointment would I shout
Joy, I always enjoyed to give and bring.
If anyone ever needed a ride
Of course I would always pick them up,
I am never ashamed of anyone at my side
And with anyone I would always share a cup.
Never would I ever rob or steal
And never have I lied or accused,
Never would I want or think to kill
Helping others I have never refused.
Of course many times I have been cheated on
And I have also been stolen from,
I have been tricked and uncaringly used like a pawn
And when I was in love, I was always dumb.
A nice guy I will always remain
Even when by others I have been treated the worst
But, no matter of my hurt or of my pain
One day I know, I will be first.
