i thought of you when the streets were wet
when drops on the roof were all i could hear
when bubbles swam beside the curb
i thought of you when you weren't near

i thought of you when lightning flashed
when everything was bright as day
when jagged streaks had scratched the sky
i thought of you in a certain way

i thought of you when thunder boomed
when the night was split by one loud 'crack'
when noise seemed to reign supreme
i thought of how you didn't look back

it's funny how i thought of you
not in the daytime, quiet and warm
we never had such peaceful days
no, i thought of you when it started to storm.
