I thought it was you,
when I heard the voice,
but the words sounded alien,
so harsh,
coming from you,
but as never before,
like a stranger had spoken.
I thought it was you,
when the air picked up,
and brought me your fragrance,
your familiar scent,
that always gave hope,
and friendship,
but today it brought despair,
and the air current,
took your fragrance away.
I thought it was you,
when the familiar eyes,
looked into mine,
but today they are not the same,
not open and inviting,
but shut down,
as if closing your mind.
I thought it was you,
when I had the familiar feeling,
of your presence,
your warmth, the comfort,
but today I get the shivers,
the comfort is gone,
and I don’t want to stay.
I thought it was you,
as we stood together,
but I am looking at someone new,
someone who has changed,
who I don’t know,
and we both realize,
the feeling has gone away,
we no longer want to stay,
so we both turn,
never looking back,
and go our separate ways.
This is such a quality writing that I have nothing to add.I will, however, add it, to my favorite list of poems. Thank you Mehreen! . GW62

Sometimes life is like that a relationship ends for no apparent reason. So you move on and retain the memories you wish to keep I do not normally care for free form but you do it beautifully
