I Must Seem Quite Old Fashioned Poem by Francis Duggan

I Must Seem Quite Old Fashioned

The media tycoons must think people fools the stories they keep printing
Of political scandals and politics such trash they keep inventing
Of Hollywood and the British Royals the journalist seeks his glory
For to be the first to put to print some whiff of scandal story.

Prince Charles doesn't see eye to eye with Phillip his dad do you find that worth reading?
Whilst others struggle to survive the high lives they are leading
I suppose Royalists around the World on such stories interested
For to upkeep the social divide such energy invested.

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman at last have separated
They treat these people like small gods and they quite over rated
Nicole said this and Tom said that read on and feel impassioned
Since stories of their break up doesn't appeal to me I must seem quite old fashioned.

For more than ten pages of sports in the newspaper there has to be a reason
Forgive me it had slipped my mind this is the Footy Season
By the wealthy it would seem to me sports coverage invented
To make life better for the few and keep the masses contented.

Some great theologians would have us believe that we are all sisters and brothers
Though I do suppose that we live our dreams through the success of others
But of any sporting club as such I'm not a paid up member
And I won't care what team wins the Grand Final next September.

We read of Peter Costello's budget and Bill Clinton's latest
erection
And it won't bother me that much who wins the next election
And of stories of the British royals and Hollywood stars can't say I feel impassioned
But then I'm not up with the times and I am quite old fashioned.
