I Lay There Willingly Poem by Marcus McKinley

I Lay There Willingly

Your absence has left me fossilized within
Laid upon the steps of loves obsidian
In the classic posture of the Chac Mool
my bowl, empty for offering
Anticipating my hearts extraction
jagged and torn from my chest
Ceremoniously
pumping and beating, vigorously
your love has gotten the best of me

Raised to the heavens
my burden now set free
Gripped tight in your hand, my love is
so too, is my misery
For 120 seconds I watch,
till my mind can’t breathe
Joyous rains collect upon eye panes
soon, I will live once more
And this, I know for sure
The cenote is full again
