I Don't Care! Poem by Randy McClave

I Don't Care!

I told her how a man was refused service
Because of the color or his skin.
And how a woman was mocked and laughed at
Because in love with another woman she had been.
She then just brushed her beautiful blonde hair;
She then laughed at me and said, 'I don't care! '

I told her how the poor was starving
And how the middle class was losing more.
The elderly was now suffering dearly
Protection of us all was what I thought our government was for.
In her mirror she then applied her makeup and then did stare;
She then turned around and said to me, 'I don't care! '

I told her how many people were losing their jobs
So, that wealthy could become wealthier.
And how prescription and healthcare costs were rising
So, that only the rich could become healthier.
She then bit into a golden pear;
She then flashed me a smile and said, 'I don't care! '

I told her how children were locked up in cages
And many preached or believed that it was biblical law.
I said the Bible says to help and protect the immigrants
To cage children was never uttered by Jesus or Peter, James or Paul.
Their suffering and support we should all bare
She then laughed at me and said, 'I don't care! '

She then told me some of her own recent bad news
And would I please stay there and listen.
Her stocks had crashed, she had wrecked her car
Her clothes are all now to small, she cried as she did glisten.
She begged me to help her with money or even a prayer
I just walked away from her as I said, 'I don't care! '
