I Don’t Know Poem by Parvathy Nair

I have lived so long,
And yet I don’t know why,
I am alive at all.

I have sung a song,
Yet don’t know what
I have sung all along.

I have walked on ahead,
Yet I don’t know where,
The route had led.

I have seen the darkness of nights,
And the brightness of noon’s,
Yet I know not why,
I passed through so many moons.

Wherein lies the meaning of life
Underneath this shroud, somundane?

Is it my breath or my heart beat?
Is it my thought or my vision?
Is it my emotion or my evergreen hope?
Or my courage, the zeal of a mission?

That guides me through this path
That started all but with an innocent cry
Would pass through the seasons and years,
And end it all in a last painful sigh
