I Did Not Create Many Faces Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Did Not Create Many Faces

I did not create many faces
I did not hide in diverse voices
I did not try
To be many as one
And more than one as many
I tried to simply say and be myself
And perhaps this was simply not enough
And had I gone for the many voices and faces
I would have made myself more and enough
But I did not-
And so,
I who am only as I am -
Write this again
In simple straightforward lines
Perhaps a fool to the end
As only I am.
