I Am Sorry

I am sorry
For trying to be strong
I am sorry
For letting this go so long

I am sorry
For hurting you
I am sorry
But you hurt me too

I am sorry
For not being there
I am sorry
That you don't care

I am sorry
For all your stress
I am sorry
For this whole mess

I am sorry
For the tears I've shed
I am sorry
For the cruel words you've said

I am sorry
That you are pissed
I am sorry
That I won't be missed

I am sorry
That you hate me so
I am sorry
That I can't let this go

I am sorry
That you feel this way
I am sorry
For all the words I want to say

I am sorry
For your choice
I am sorry
You never want to hear my voice

I am sorry
For this betrayal
I am sorry
That our friendship has sailed

I am sorry
For being sorry
I am sorry
So, so, sorry

A moving poem. There is genuine emotion here, but it is controlled and kept in a very strict form. I particularly like the way you use 'I am sorry' to mean 'I apologise (for something i've done) ' and then shift it into 'I regret (something you've done) ', and end up with being sorry for being sorry. This is a haunting piece - I love it. (Report) Reply

Dost see how unregarded now
That piece of beauty passes?
There was a time when I did vow
