I Am Not Changing Poem by Marcquiese Burrell

I Am Not Changing

I'm not changing, Not the way you want me
I'm not changing, I'll stay as I should be
I won't follow the program
So just take me as I am

I'm not changing, that is final
I'm not changing, no free trials
If you hope I change my mind just understand
while I do love you, I don't love the hand
you're shuffling the deck, deal the cards

Love should come easy, why make it hard?
Whoever says i'm not worthy
Certainly don't deserve me
How many have you convinced
Who followed your directions to a road that leads only into pain?
Abandoning themselves just to fill the emptiness in their hearts
Couldn't learn to appreciate or fully love themselves

Are you aware this is a crime?
Baby, You've crossed the line
I refuse to be what you ask of me

I am not changing, I am fine the way I am
I am not changing, I am not one of them
Who'll be fine playing dress up
leave my mind all messed up
You have no influence over me
this is my vow
take me or you can leave now
