I Am Not A Poetry Critic Poem by Francis Duggan

I Am Not A Poetry Critic

I am not a poetry critic for such i am not qualified
And who is a poet or non poet is not for me to decide
I had a love of reading rhymes when i was a young boy
And nowadays as an ageing male writing them i do enjoy
And though one might say as a rhymer i have failed to make the grade
Everyone who writes is needed in the greater wordsmith trade
In writing like all other things for every winner many lose
Though to be seen as a loser anyone would never choose
And in literature more than most things the big winners are rare
Than writing there are easier and quicker ways to become a millionaire
Though i too do have opinions for what that is worth anyway
Those who ask me who is or is not a good writer i tell them not for me to say
Writing to me an enjoyable hobby many see as a waste of time
But i am just one of those people who enjoy writing rhyme.
