I Am From Poem by Scarlett Voight

I Am From

I am from a foreign land
Most of my existence
Loved, adored, protected
Never knowing who lit the match under the
Brances of an aging, deformed tree called family

I am from constant change
Scary, over tempered, violent stepfathers,
Greasy, rotten, southern kids turning up their snobby noses
A place where few friends time had brought, then long gone

I am from warm Florida sun
Where neighbors seemed more giving
Many days outside, pretending there was magic there
In thoes pine needle trees that called you to ascend
Caressing the nature that grows in your heart

I am from the mountain, vineyards and
Tasty creps during Kurmis
German folk music sung happily by drunken old people
Echoing to the neghboring villages
While tears fall each time, under thundering fireworks
Sadness, envy, regret, lost and forgotten love

I am from my own new world
From invisible strength and enlightenment
From a constant beating and growing soul
I am from experience
