I Am An Old Poetry Machine Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Am An Old Poetry Machine

The Poetry in me
Whole poems are few
Broken lines are many
Poetic phrases jumble through everywhere
A lifetime of reading poetry
And of trying to learn and remember it-

But what I know inside is small
The world contains millions of whole poems
Now easily accessible-

I am an old poetry machine
A not very efficient machine
But a feeling machine
A machine with a history
A machine with poetry all through it
A sometime poetry- making machine-

The world is my better
There is so much more available
Than I am or know or can possibly make-

I am an old small broken poetry machine
Too easy to read
Not very special or valuable perhaps
But with poetry in me still-
