Hush Hush Poem by Liz Annson

Hush Hush

Hush, hush
Don't cry
Your eyes betray the pain
I can see straight through
Hush, quiet child.
Your chest is full of birds
Frantically beating
Your heart with wings of pewter.
Lacking
In wings of your own.
Be silent, young one,
Hush, my child.
Carve open your breast
Let your soul fly free,
Grace the heavens with your self.
But if you can't be brave
(hush, hush, don't cry)
Not enough courage to rend your own heart
Maybe
Someone else's will do.
