In August of 1984, with the permission of the US Fish and Wildlife
'Service', bulldozers crushed young cattle egrets, blue herons, and snowy egrets trapped in their nests. Crushed and mutilated birds were hanging from the trees and lying on the ground. 90% of
the citizens of Hubbard Texas had voted against waiting until fall to
eliminate the colony whose noise and smell had caused
discomfort to Hubbard's human residents.
