Hospital Nightshift Poem by Paula Glynn

Hospital Nightshift

It is wintertime and the cold night falls
At 4: 30 in the afternoon as predicted
Where the city of London comes alive
Many attractive young men and women
Enjoying their vivacious and vibrant nightlife
That explodes with the pulse of popularity

The important ambulance service
And the local London hospital
Waiting for all those night-time dramas
Where young men get into fierce fights
Where young women totter on their high heels
The night full of drugs and alcohol intoxication

Where problems with paradise do reveal
And the once happy neon night
Drugs and alcohol do selfishly steal
But the hospital nightshift workers
Makes enthusiastic club goers
Realize it is probably time to go home to bed

But some to spend night-time
In the busy hospital ward
Where they fall sleep restfully
And by the nightshift staff are not ignored
And never show if they've had enough
Their hard work taking patients to the morning

Time never stopping and time predictable
Time a constant: especially in the hospital
The range of emergencies
And the range of injuries and health issues
Do keep night staff constantly busy
Their time spent keeping the public safe

Gratitude to be given to those
Hard working hospital staff: daytime and nightshift
Staff that save lives and keeps the city safer
Nightshift staff going on duty night-after-night
Club - and even restaurant and public house goers -
Able to wake to another cold London morning.
