Hospital Life Poem by Paula Glynn

Hospital Life

There is always activity in hospital life,
There is always an emergency,
Whether it be a car accident,
A suicide attempt,
An accident in the kitchen,
A head injury:
The list goes on.

Thousands of people,
Pass through hospital life everyday,
Thousands of people in pain,
But the doctors and nurses,
Prescribe pain treatment,
And cancer treatment,
To make patients better,
Safe inside from any type of weather.

Nurses draw blood,
While fitting a fluid bag,
And monitoring a patient’s,
Heart rate and blood pressure,
And medicines are distributed,
To each and every patient,
With the wide variety of ailments.

The hospital food is better than before,
Patients eating their meat and/or vegetables,
While dessert is jelly and custard,
Everyone laughingly,
Complaining about hospital food,
But most people are hungry,
And don’t moan too much,
For the hospital staff,
Try their best.

In accident and emergency,
Many back and head injuries,
Come through, for the roads,
Are quite dangerous,
Many motorists needing treatment,
So the A&E staff work their magic,
And – mostly – days later,
The patients are discharged.

People still in their beds,
Play with their smart phones and iPads,
For it keeps them entertained,
And they love surfing the Internet,
While they don’t have any visitors,
And they watch YouTube,
And read the news,
For they want to know life,
Out of the hospital walls.

Patients have visits,
From family and friends,
All wishing them the best,
And you can hear talk and laughter,
The patients cheered up by company,
For it can be lonely,
In a hospital bed,
For days on end.

Everyone passes through hospital,
At some point, and it is,
A hive of activity,
Doctors, nurses,
All working to heal the sick and wounded,
Patients needing pain relief,
And medical treatment,
But time moves on,
And everyone is glad to have been treated,
The hospital a place to heal.

Health care workers need to be held in high esteem. I think they do well. Though a few are irresponsible. Good work. God bless you
