Hope For Newtown, Connecticut Poem by Walterrean Salley

Hope For Newtown, Connecticut

Rating: 5.0

Tragedy's visited Newtown
On the Eastern Shore.
Bringing a nation to its knees—
Striking at the core.

Sandy Hook Elementary
Was seized and overpowered
As twenty-six souls
Were gone within an hour.

God bless the brave women
Mothers, sisters, wives
Caring and compassionate
Who sadly lost their lives.

Among them, twenty tots—
Ages six to seven—
Who're now happy angels
Smiling down from heaven.

Heroic teachers there
As they crouched and hid.
Console, loved and guided
The frightened little kids

People the world over
Are touched by the grief.
But for this, such tragedy,
There is no relief.

Devastated parents,
Grieved and forlorn,
Look to their faith—
Rekindled and reborn.

And our prayer for Newtown
On this dark day
Is for a brighter hope
That naught could take away.
