Homecoming Poem by Poisha Yungen

Homecoming

The clouds take on red-rosy tints
And blush below the sun’s soft gaze
They glow beneath its dying rays
And blithely flash the borrowed glints

The soft grass shimmers verdant hues
Its lush, sweet scent wraps summer leaves
And seeps its comfort through the eaves
And leaves the cottage thus imbued

A young girl leaps among the wheat
And lays the branches on the earth
Erecting her dream-fashioned hearth
And, like a Vestal, takes her seat

Step lightly on the well-worn path
Its mismatched stones rubbed smooth as slate
And whistle as you contemplate
Your brother reaping autumn swaths

The pearly sky fades darkly blue
Dim figures head toward the gate
North, East, South, West, you gladly wait
For them to make their way to you

The faces of all kith and kin
Shine love and trust across the loam
What peace it is – to now be home
How soothing to return again!
