Hindi Aur Meree Pehchaan Poem by Hardik Vaidya

Hindi Aur Meree Pehchaan

I read a pathetic scribble on Facebook written in Hindi, I was inspired to write a poem in appreciation of my school teacher Pandey Jee, who made me fall in love with this language of all languages, also thanks to the erudite syllabi designed and offered by NCERT.

Hindi aur meree pehchaan.

Aaj bhee, Sukhe ganne ke danthal bhaanti,
Khadee hai.
Khet me, beechown beech,
Apnee gareemaa Ko sanjoye huwe.
Aasmaan kee or tiktikee see bandhe,
Cheel aur kauwon koo nakaartee,
Pishaach kee tarah, akeli, aur moun.
Rashtra hee jab na huwaa,
To kiskee dulhan aur kiskee Betee?
Kintu akahndit, bekhouf, be baak,
Apnee khulee phatee huee aakhon se,
Mujhe taktee,
Puchkaartee,
Main sirf Teree hoon,
Siri aur sirf tumhaaree.
Hindi.

Translation:

Hindi and my identity.

Standing like a lone sugarcane stump,
Right on the midst of our tilling lands.
Safeguarding it's sanctity,
Gazing fixed at the vacant sky,
Dissuading negating the hawks and the crows,
Like a witch, alone and silent.
Nation was not formed,
Then who's consort who's daughter is she?
Yet, monolithic, fearless, outspoken,
Stares me she, with her open bloated eyes.
Cajoling me,
Darling I am only yours,
Yours only,
Hindi.
