He's Done Poem by Ray Hansell

He's Done

He said he was finished
His writing days were done
He said, in his mind
It was no longer fun

He said, he needed to find
Another way to pass the time
But he made it clear he was through
When it came to making rhyme

He said, he's lost his passion
For the written word
He said, that his last poem
Is the last that will be heard

No more poems about failed love
No more poems about living
He said, I've run out of words
I have nothing left for giving

It was sad to read the words he wrote
Because he had so much to say
But I guess in every life
In everything, there's a time to walk away

Maybe that's the secret
To knowing when you're done
When you realize in life
That what you're doing, is no longer fun

I know it's never easy
To leave something that was a passion
But in every life there comes a time
When the lights of ideas stops flashing
