Happiness Poem by Joan Hart

Happiness

Rating: 5.0

Happiness is the sparrow
Who lives in a cage,
Unaware of the world
Outside

As long as it doesn’t
Look out its window,
It suppresses its sorrows
Inside

I keep my blinds shut -
I try to forget
The sky outside
So blue

This trick of the mind
Has many slip-ups:
You cannot hide
From what’s true.

This is a very well written poem, Caroline, and it speaks a universal truth that we must live with the truth of ourselves, no matter what it is. Your metaphor of using the sparrow in a cage was very effective in this fine poem, as even if we try to hide the truth, or deny it's existence, we still are what we are, even if we refuse to believe it. It is a very thought provoking and effective write. Carl.
