Had Waited Poem by Randy McClave

Had Waited

He liked her when he was a teen
But, he knew with him she wouldn't want to be seen,
He believed that she was from a better class
So, he turned his head whenever they would pass.
But, every day he would think of her,
Especially whenever joy and happiness did occur.

He still liked her when he turned twenty
But, men like him she probably had seen plenty,
He still knew she was the most beautiful woman there was
With her, he still was in love.
He dreamed of him and her together all of the time,
He even heard the wedding bells chime.

He liked her still when he turned thirty
Now he became a little more flirty,
But, with her he would never flirt or tease
Her, he just wanted to please.
But her, he still sadly ignored,
Because he knew with him she wouldn't be happy, but bored.

He still thought about her when he turned forty
But, now he became a little more sporty,
Now he still did all that he could do to impress
Especially when he saw her in his favorite colored dress.
But, whenever she would looked his way,
From fear not one word to her would he say.

Then lonely decades came and passed them both by
Then one day it was their times to die,
He was first to leave and to Heaven he was sent
Then decades later unto Heaven she also went.
Finally he asked her who she had married and dated,
She said, "no-one", "because for you I had always waited".
