Guilty Conscious Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Guilty Conscious

An action to be done.
Seldom is without,
Some reaction to come.

Nonsense to dump it.
Should not surprise anyone.
To receive that act back.

Those who claim innocence,
For a misdeed to do to intend it.
Are the first to falsely accused,
Someone else to blame...
As being responsible.

"Oh?
And why is it,
They deny and refuse responsibility?
And admit from the beginning,
What they have done to do? "

It's all about popularity.
And people insecure needing attention.
Like a child told not to play with matches.
But does it to burn down a house.
Then claim not to know anything,
About a fire they started.
Or how a box of matches got in their hands.
To accuse the matches.
With a convincing of tears,
Flowing from pitiful eyes.

"Your depiction,
Of this childish innocence.
Was very descriptive.
As if you had witnessed this."

Oh...I...uh...oh...
Just happened to have lived,
In that neighborhood.
And the child was eventually forgiven.

"What about the house? "

It took years for the guilt,
To be overcomed.
Even to this day that damage done,
Is still felt as if it was yesterday.

"Oh?
I see.
And uh...what about the house? "

The house?
Oh, the house.
I have no idea.
I had been attracted to the scene,

"Yeah.
That curiosity may kill cats.
But not a guilty conscious.
Right? "
