Goose (Time Out Is For Lovers) Poem by Luke J. Holt

Goose (Time Out Is For Lovers)

I was a goose for a while
But every boy sits back down
And forfeits his wreaths to the next fowl bird
Returns to patient duckhood

Kindergarten is taught by a bird herself who let the waiting wait on her words of 'duck' or 'goose'
Former geese sigh in grief
Bereave their wreaths
New geese give chase and catch up or fail to
They're all vigilant ducks again in the end
Except for whoever's goose
Any fowl boy who leaves this ring of waiters and winners is tersely reminded that it's circle time
And that all a duck can gain for quitting is Time Out
where no one talks or chases or rejects or anoints
Time Out is for lovers
Circle time is for Geese
