Gods In Paradise Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Gods In Paradise

It was the afterthought of a New Years party,
Bodies slowly dying off into heavy sleep
Toppling over one another, in a random arrangement of strangers.
But we, we ran out to the balcony as the sun began to rise
High and wired dancing barefoot.
Giggling as the sparklers ignite in our hands,
And the flash of a camera takes a pretty shot
Of a fantasy come alive.
Warned about the time to come,
It matters not what comes next.
There is always what comes next.
I am more in love with what came before,
And evermore adoring how we don’t stop dancing with the now.

All night people worry about thoughts that truly haunt the mind,
I try to be kind and speak words of beauty etched with the ringing truth.
Let’s forget the rest and keep moving those feet to the beat of the new year.

When summer swings in far lovelier than spring,
Singing about palm trees and an ocean glittering in the sun or moonlight
Drinking as the day is long,
Getting high to stay up past mornings most glamorous hours.
I want a taste of the tropical dream lemonade that you spoke of
Months before,
Hit me with those Spanish dreams.
Where can I find some?
Not wasting time in the music video of our lives,
Cast on television screens where too many get lost..
Remember your youth,
Paint her lips red, curl my hair, and wander down the streets hand in hand.
We are everything.
We are the God’s in the paradise of now.

It is a relaxing poem, no strain in it. no obsession by useless thoughts - just rest, rest, of soul and body! great!

This is a charming poem, but not the current meaning of CHARMING which is merely pleasant, I mean it's original meaning of being under a spell. The speaker and another celebrant separate themselves from the group to more keenly experience this spell and they seem be to be released to move freely in time and space. I like the easy flow of language which suggests effortless pleasure, an enveloping atmosphere of fulfillment, not a negative twist or turn anywhere. The closing lines cinch the experience WE ARE EVERYTHING. WE ARE THE GODS IN THE PARADISE OF NOW. Where can I buy a ticket to this place? Or is it a magic carpet ride?
