God Within Poem by Francis Duggan

God Within

Your god in the sky may not make you a better person the one you pray to for forgiveness for sin
Compassion and kindness your god cannot give you since these only come from within
Religion will not make you a better person you cannot have empathy if you do not have your god of the mind
If you do not have the inner god you cannot be generous and kind
Many who believe in the god in the sky known to be judgmental and verbally put others down
Those who are not religious as they profess to be they dismiss as the sinners of the town
They feel they have a right to be judgmental since the god to they regularly pray
Would too look on all non believers as mortal souls who had gone astray
Those with their god within may even be atheists but goodness in others they see
They do not pass judgment on others of such a flaw they do live free
Their god of the mind makes them less judgmental than most are since they do have the inner glow
And they can be kind and compassionate and likeable and good to know
Your god in the sky may not make you a better person if you do not have your god within
If you wish to make the World better to live in with yourself you have to begin.
