Gnimaerd Poem by Alexander Thomas

Gnimaerd

The tea in the cup stirs,
As we forget our cares,
With a cloudy swirl,
The winding stairs curl.

More warm tea we sip,
The grip of time we slip,
Down the rabbit hole,
To the depths of the soul.

On shifting ground we rest,
To put logic to the test,
With memories treasures,
All in infinite measures.

Please don't sigh 'cause it doesn't matter why,
As long as you believe the lie,
If you remember why you will open your eye,
And then we all die.

And the cat does fiddle,
To weave its riddle,
With loose thread it plays,
As the mice do as it says.

But it does seem strange,
To whatever my eye does arrange,
What we see is abnormal,
In the mirror it is normal.

Down is up and left is right,
The day is dark and the night is bright,
Inside is out and out is inside,
From each does the memory slide.

Please don't cry 'cause it doesn't matter why,
As long as you believe the lie,
If you remember why you will make a big sigh,
And then we all open our eye.

From the shadow we hide,
Of truths glistening tide,
To the shade we run,
To the warmth from our black sun.

I think so therefore I am,
I don't think but to do so much I can,
All the places we have been,
A ghost to what each has seen.

Freer without being,
Asleep when seeing,
Eternity cannot last,
As forever it is past.

Please don't open your eye 'cause it doesn't matter why,
As long as you believe the lie,
If you remember why you will wake up and die,
And then we all cry.

For when you died,
In dreams I lied,
In sleep you exist,
But my memory you resist.

But it is I who forgot you decay,
In the cold light of day,
And when I am awoken,
My link with you is broken.

So in dreams reborn,
To each a new dawn,
One night both mind's eyes will open,
And the truth will once again be spoken.
