Global Political Awareness Poem by John W. McEwers

Does anyone remember Afghanistan?
How about Iraq or Vietnam?
I remember watching them on CNN
Late at night with breaking news banners about troops going in.

I wasn't old enough to remember the hippies.
But I read that they were pretty angry.
They rioted about all the injustice they saw
and dodged the draft so they wouldn't have to go be a part of it all.

Why didn't anyone dodge the draft this time?
Does anyone remember why the hippies didn't come back to dodge the draft this time?

I don't, but I'm trying to remember.
And
when I do
I'll never forget.
