Girlfriend & Motherland Poem by Debasish Mishra

Girlfriend & Motherland

You become a lot emotional
For the sake of your girlfriend,
But where do you lose your emotions all
When dealing with your motherland? ? ?

So care and concern for your mistress
And neglect of the mother;
Leaving her alone in utter distress
As if you have nothing to bother!

Oceans of tears and zeal extreme
For the fortunate girl;
No commitment, alas, for your mother grim
As if she were a discarded pearl!

O! The great modern lovers,
The heroes of the times;
I call you all roguish lovers-
Guilty of heinous crimes.

What right have you to draw her air
And live on her lap?
Who, in this world, alloted you
A place in her coveted map?

O wise man, O lover-
The girl might leave one day;
But this you learn- Forever
The mother, with you, will stay...

our former president here in the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon said, 'MY DUTY TO MY FRIENDS END WHEN MY DUTY TO MY COUNTRY BEGINS'... this poem is related to that quote... nice poem!
