Girl Named Radio Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Girl Named Radio

Rating: 5.0

Yesterday,
I plugged in my radio,
Scanning through all the stations.
Searching through the various talk shows.
The channels that only talked about sports.
The stations that only played today's hits.
I entertained the thought momentarily until sliding the
dial farther right.
Most of the stations picked right up.
Some unclear due to the frequency.
Continuing to browse through the stations.
A raspy static came through the speakers.
I moved the antenna left, then right. a semi circle of lost hope.
Sliding the dial, looking for the right frequency.
The station came through a bit clearer but still played
with a low signal.
Fed up,
I slid the dial a bit further right, planning to unplug the radio
then out of nowhere the perfect station appeared.
A low sung love song played through the speakers.
I immediately turned the volume up, just a tad.
moving close to the speaker.
This song happened to be unlike all the other songs heard today.
The vocals, The chorus.
It was simple in nature. Conveying a simple message.
Told in just Two words between the bass.
Telling a story told between the blurred lines between talk radio
and all the other stations that play the same song over and over.
I mean I've fallen in love with other songs before.
I've Listened to them day in and day out,
But not like this,
none of them have ever kissed my ears before.
A sweet caress expressed in just two words.
The volume didn't have to be extremely high.
The bridge didn't have to depict any act of sexuality.
Nor display a double standard.
The message was clear and simple. As the chorus rung.

Such a wonderful poem...It takes me back, and makes me think of the Ramones (Rock and Roll Radio) . Such a great poem.
