Garry Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Garry

Garry

Researcher and writer,
Devoted, hard worker,
Garry is a Cree…

He knows the fire as
The ember and flame
As well as buffalo.

He feels the bone, flesh
And the fat around them
And value of women.

They clean the skin
And bring livelihood
By setting the Tepee.

Deep in him, Garry has
The sense of ancestors
When ruling prairie.

When prays, he prays
To the one who founded
The being on this Earth
"The Great Spirit."

He spent much time to
Know and feel Spirit
Of "Proud Wandering."

He, "Defence Minister"
Of the Cree People
Had head up as "Rebel."

Though wounded he walked to,
The gallows of unkind;
Sang love song for his wife
Then "Goodbye, " closed eyes.

Garry says: "Wandering Spirit
Was born and lived free as a jar
That was filled with merit."
