From Toussaint L'Ouverture To Obama Poem by Hebert Logerie

From Toussaint L'Ouverture To Obama

From Toussaint L'Ouverture to Martin,
From Rosa Louise McCauley Parks to Obama,
Despite some gains, we have a long road ahead,
To reach a comfortable resting spot; alive or dead,
We must continue clearing the hurdles to Eden,
Which is our ultimate goal and destination; even then,
We still have to deal with the formidable elements,
And the ubiquitous bureaucracies of the departments.

Through slavery, we have crossed the barriers of hells.
We have faced, confronted and clashed with the devils,
Which utilized different shades of nature to divide us;
To create false pride, hollow ranks, calamity and chaos,
To control our lives, conquer our raison d'être and our soul.
The bells of freedom are ringing; let them ring, let them toll,
From the very top of every mountains and from the tower
Of every small churches. We, the People, now, have Power.

The U.S.A. is a huge melting pot; America is the place to be.
Through voting, the People are speaking: let ring the bells of Liberty
And Justice. Let ring the bells of Freedom and Equality.
Let's toll the bells of Fairness and Freedom of speech.
At this juncture, we can only go forward. Let's teach
Each other how to be civil and courteous. Let's reach
For the stars together. Let's stop the negative rhetorics.
Remember, the same blood is flowing through our arteries,
And we have not yet crossed some t's and dotted some crazy i's.

The reelection of President Obama is an affirmation
To the current waves of thinking that we must take action
Together; we should march and cross the roads together,
Because we are in this together. We have to work together.
We must face the future and solve the problems together.
If we support each other, we will inevitably get there together
And that speaks volumes. Toussaint L'Ouverture,
Our forefathers and Dr.King have sacrificed their future,
And heroically died for us, so we can enjoy a better journey,
Wherever we are on earth: Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
Let's make them happy and proud.
Let's be jubilant and loud.
Let Freedom reign, let Freedom shine.
Together, let's cross the finish line.
