Friendly Surrender Poem by Peggy Chau

Friendly Surrender

Rating: 5.0

Sitting in silence
I close my eyes
to make clear of my conscience
to reflect what I’ve done

I may not be your good friend
but can be a co-worker.
Yet with you there’s no end
for the struggles ahead.

You say I am wrong
with this, with that, with everything.
Every day raising your voice in solemn
blaming me for my being.

A split second of conversation
can you offer me?
No further complication
of our tug-of-war.

You demand me to change
I would try my best.
But who else in the cage
in which we are trapped?

If we can really talk
please listen genuinely
and please do not mock.
Let me tell you my thoughts.

In return of course you can say
for our relationship we should build
by both of us and day by day.
Shall we then step forward and get into talk?

Recently, I am having a bad time with one of my colleagues. I don't know what I have done that makes our relationship worse. I do think of a reason myself like maybe sometimes not being polite enough but I do find myself innocent for some of her charges on me. For this, I have written this poem. I think we are now in a tug-of-war because we don't communicate and we don't try to fix the problem. We keep on blaming others but seldom do we reflect on ourselves. And from now on, I should try to step forward so that we can uphold the team spirit and work happily together.
