The Path to Freedom

A daring thought slips through the cracks of a mind closed
Its twisted and strange, like a lighthouse in the fog
You know you should try to find your way there
Will you? Can you break out of the ugliness you've been handed?
It's a long cry for help in silent hours
I was once blind, I could not see the truth that none of us are free
I could feel the chaos and the sadness, the madness
The mess of you, me, humanity in all its chains
But I was blinded to the beauty in giving up and giving in
Nothing more divine than falling into the hands of nothing
But now after cooling off into something more than numbness
I promise, there are answers waiting in the dark
But I no longer care about answers
I sometimes worry about the questions
Your questions, not mine, I have no more questions
The starry universe knows what it knows
The sky and earth tell us in simple dreamy ways
I know the sticky thoughts in your head try to tell you otherwise
And yet when you touch my face I know you sense the neglect of reality
‘Cause none of this is real is it? Well, maybe, as real as we want it to be
Your world and my world and their world are not the world
The world is its own creation, and we create different worlds all our own
Are you free in yours like I am mine?
Does the ocean hold onto your tears like the many who have forgotten?
Too many have forgotten, we start off remembering, and then we forget
Only to be lost in hell or in heaven
Only to be reminded that at one time we knew
And chase back to the beginning in false hope of grasping it
Do you remember now? Do you see the child ghost who is calling out to you?
I keep mine always near, I think I'm still her most times anyway
Well, why not?
Don't get mad at the strange way it all is, we're all mad
Oh but that's been said before
Struggle on, love, struggle on
Don't try too hard to make it all clear. The answer I tell you is in the fall.
Ah, now you get it. See? All you have to do is let go.
All you have to do is surrender everything you think you know
Do not wonder who will catch you,
give in.
then at last

You are free.

This title FREEDOM ANGEL is characteristic of your poetry, almost a signature, and the subtitle THE WAY TO FREEDOM identifies your essential theme. At the very end, you tell the other person the final step on this path, that is, to step into the unknown with insufficient knowledge but fully empowered with confidence. This demands a special kind of courage which has nothing to do with bravado. Joseph CAMPBELL said we get the adventures we're ready for, and I see your poem as an extended declaration of your readiness. That's how I read the CHILDHOOD GHOST metaphor: It symbolizes the core of one's being which in some mysterious way embodies all of our future, if we have the courage to realize it.

i like the truth of there being only answers and no more questions, a peaceful thought for a would-be philosopher as myself. two thumbs up, way up! peace and love.

I am free! Splendid, this poem is mind-opening. As a young learner I am humbled by this piece.
